It was announced awhile back that William Fichtner was cast in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. While everyone pretty much figured he was playing Shredder, that was kept secret until now. In an interview with The Huffington Post, Fichtner was asked about the Turtles movie and admitted he was cast to play Shredder.

“I play Shredder. It is cool,” Fichtner said. “It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, ‘Really? Let me think about this for a minute.’ [Laughs] Then I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.’ I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.”

The original Shredder in the comics was an Oriental leader of the Foot Clan who killed Splinter’s master and became the sworn enemy of the Turtles who Splinter raised and trained.

The fact that William Fichtner is not Asian, I am sure the same people who denounced Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness and Man of Steel for making changes from the “sacred pages” of comic books and film lore will discount this announcement, so matter how great of an actor Fichtner is.

Then again, Michael Bay is producing it, so that was a given.
