Guillermo Del Toro is a Renegade favorite and he is actually coming to television in the very near future. The book is The Strain and that will also be the name of the show. Del Toro co-wrote a vampire novel trilogy with Chuck Hogan and they have sold the idea to FX to turn into The Strain TV series.

What is most interesting is that Del Toro pitched The Strain TV series, could not find anyone interested in it, so decided instead to write it as books. Then a television network saw the books, liked the idea and decided they wanted to make it into a television series. Strange how that worked out, isn’t it?

Basically, The Strain is a vampire story with a team called in to investigate a viral outbreak that unleashes a strain of vampirism. When things get out of control, the head of the disease control unit leads his team and some average New Yorkers into a war against the vampires.

The three books in the series are The Strain, The Fall and The Night Eternal (click on the name to buy the book from Amazon).

Casting for The Strain TV show is also underway. Corey Stoll (The Bourne Legacy) will star as leader of the team fighting vampires, while Kevin Durand (Lost) has also just joined the cast as a former exterminator who eagerly joins the human fighting team.

Guillermo Del Toro will direct the pilot, and rumor has it that FX is already ready to commit to a full season and designated $500,000 to creature effects. Are you excited about The Strain TV show now?
