Before I say anything, I just want to remind the readers this is not a dream, today is not April Fools Day, and no, the writers at Renegade Cinema are not performing inception on you. The headline above is real. Macgruber 2 is coming and doesn’t give two shits what you think about it.
While doing press for his new film Run and Jump at Tribeca, Macgruber’s lead star said the following about the moving forward of a sequel:
“We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure. Whether we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of MacGruber 2.”
Who do we have to thank for this amazing turn of events? That’s right! Veronica Mars! It seems that the victorious Kickstarter campaign has brought inspiration to everyone involved.
“Jorma [Taccone], the MacGruber director, he had the idea to do a Kickstarter like two years ago. He kept saying ‘We should do a Kickstarter’ and we were like ‘Yeah, maybe at some point.’ He’s always ahead of the curve. That’s the lesson you learn — always listen to Jorma.”
This is a shock considering the first film tanked hard at the box office. That being said, the film does have an odd cult following from those who actually did see the insane first entry. I actually thought the film was pretty damn hilarious myself but I also have a twisted sense of humor. My question is, did the people who enjoyed the first film love it enough to run back for another? Let me know what you think below!
