It seems like the new flavor of the day when it comes to remaking classics is to look at the subject from a new point of view. Maleficent is the most recent, looking at Sleeping Beauty from the witch’s point of view. Wicked was before that, with a look at the Wizard of Oz from the witch’s point of view. Well, they are bringing back the story of Frankenstein’s Monster and this one will be told from the point of view of Igor, the hunchbacked assistant.

According to Collider, the movie also has a new name in Victor Frankenstein. Here is the synopsis:

James McAvoy is Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe stars as Igor in a unique, never-before-seen twist on Mary Shelley’s classic 19th century novel.  Told from Igor’s perspective, we see the troubled young assistant’s dark origins, his redemptive friendship with the young medical student Victor Von Frankenstein, and become eyewitnesses to the emergence of how Frankenstein became the man—and the legend—we know today.

So, what it looks like we have here is a story about Victor Von Frankenstein and not so much about the Monster (and for those who question the “Von” part of his name, that has been in existence since Hammer Horror re-imagined him in the 50s).

It will be interesting to see Daniel Radcliffe as the hunchbacked Igor, but it will give him a chance to shake his Harry Potter past, along with his starring role in the upcoming adaptation of Joe Hill’s Horns. James McAvoy as Frankenstein is perfect casting though in my eyes.

Victor Frankenstein is set to hit theaters on Oct. 2, 2015, just in time for the Halloween movie season. Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) will direct the movie.
