It’s been no secret that the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy is a bit of a risky venture by Marvel mostly due to its relative obscurity to non-fanboys. It appears, however, that Marvel is undaunted by this as they now appear to be developing a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.
While this alleged series is still just a rumor, this move would make some sense. It’s a good way to promote the film the same The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes did for The Avengers and it could also help build a bigger fan base for the Guardians. This could also be helpful in figuring out if they could possibly make sequels in the future.
As for whether or not this is a good idea creatively, I can’t really say. Most of my experience with the team comes from their appearance in The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes a couple of years ago (imagine my surprise when a talking raccoon came into the picture).
At the very least I’m certainly intrigued by the idea and it would be really nice to get an opportunity to get to know the characters better.
