It appears that Joe Wright’s Peter Pan origin film Pan is now on the verge of casting the villainous Blackbeard.  Warner Brothers is reportedly in talks with Hugh Jackman to play the antagonist.  Javier Bardem was up for the role a couple of weeks ago but he’s apparently passed on the part.

I’ve got a hard time imagining Jackman in an outright villain role.  Maybe I’ve just type-casted him after watching him play Wolverine for so many years but I’ve become much more accustomed to watching him play the brooding anti-hero.  The only other type of movies I’ve ever really seen him play are period pieces which have had rather mixed results.

Of course, not many thought he was the right choice to play Wolverine way back in 1999 since the bulk of his acting experience at the time was on stage.  Not only did he prove everybody wrong about that but it’s now come to a point that it’s almost impossible to imagine him being played by anybody else.  While I’ve never seen Jackman play the villain before, he’s proven talented enough over the years that I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.

Would a Hugh Jackman Blackbeard  make a good villain?  Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
