OK, this is really a case of non-news, but Kevin Feige was asked recently about the chance of having a possible giant Marvel crossover event with Marvel’s Avengers, Fox’s X-Men and Sony’s Spider-Man – something like a Civil War type of event.

I don’t see this ever happening – at least not with all three studios, and even the chance of Marvel and Fox ever working together on a Marvel crossover is unlikely. However, Feige was a little more optimistic about it, although not anytime soon.

Feige basically said that Marvel has a very large number of characters in their toy box to play with, and have no real need to go after partnerships with other studios for a Marvel crossover. However, he also said “never say never,” although he emphasized it would come no time soon.

That makes sense from a business standpoint, because with characters like Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Capt. Marvel, Luke Cage and the returning Punisher, Blade and Daredevil, there isn’t a reason to share profits with Fox or Sony right now.

However, from a fan standpoint, it is disappointing because by the time they get around to an Avengers vs. X-Men story or a Fantastic Four crossover, actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman will be finished with the roles. How cool would it be to see a Marvel crossover with the current actors? That won’t happen, but as Feige said, never say never for the future.
