“The Newest Hottest Joint by Spike Lee” has raised $1.3 million via crowd sourcing website Kickstarter — giving a new meaning to the words “joint,” “hottest” and possibly “Spike.” The Spike Lee Kickstarter campaign reached its goal Friday– and only took about a week to get there. The page will still be open to donations for another five days.

Afterwards, the “Do the Right Thing” director made a video addressing and thanking all his fans for the support. “We’ve been doin’ this motherfu**er since nineteen-eighty-moterhfu**in’-six, and we will continue to make our films,” Lee remarked intelligently.

“I’m an Indie Filmmaker and I will always be an Indie Filmmaker,” Lee stated to nay-sayers asking why he — a well known director — is using a grassroots platform like Kickstarter to fund his 19th film. “Indie Filmmakers are always in search of financing because their work, their vision sometimes does not coincide with Studio Pictures.”

The proposed film is about “human beings who are addicted to blood.” The page also hilariously assures it is “not a remake of ‘Blacula.'” Now that’s a Kickstarter I could get behind!

Gifts for high donors in the Spike Lee Kickstarter included crazy shit like a Michael Jackson “Bad” Blu-ray signed by Spike. Really.
