One of the most anticipated comedies this year is the follow-up to 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Anticipation heightened last March when Will Ferrell appeared in character on Conan and broke the news of the greenlit sequel. Film production recently began picking up momentum and reports are beginning to drop about additions to the comedic ensemble.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Kristen Wiig has officially signed on to star in Anchorman: The Legend Continues. Given her relationship with Judd Apatow and Will Ferrell, this really isn’t surprising. The report did not specify what role she will play in the sequel. One can only assume that she is another addition to the “Channel 4 News Team.” Regardless of how she fits into the new film, I am quite excited to hear this.

Wiig is an amazing comedic presence in every film she is given. I can’t even imagine how director Adam McKay is going to utilize her, but I’m quite intrigued nonetheless. Kristen Wiig will be joining the returning cast, which includes Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate, and much more. Anchorman: The Legend Continues is currently scheduled to hit theaters this December.

What do you think of Kristen Wiig joining the Anchorman sequel?
