Much to the surprise of many, Zack Snyder announced that this summer’s Man of Steel will not feature any kryptonite, Superman’s most famous weakness.
Snyder confirmed this in an interview with EW.
“I’ll be honest with you: there’s no Kryptonite in the movie.”
Snyder then went on to say this.
“Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties.”
I’m actually a bit pleased to find out that Kryptonite will be left out for this movie. As a big Superman fan, I’ve gotten sick and tired of hearing people bitch and whine about how “kryptonite is the only thing that can hurt Superman” when it’s not. He does have several other weaknesses. Kryptonite is just his most famous one. Keep in mind, the Man of Tomorrow will be fighting General Zod and his henchmen in the new movie. When Superman is fighting an opponent of equal or greater strength, he will actually sustain damage.
Now I ask you this: If Superman is going to be fighting someone as strong as he is, do we really need kryptonite in this movie? They didn’t think so in Superman II.
What do you think of this idea of seeing a Superman movie without his most famous weakness? Do you think that they should have left it in? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
