Deadline is reporting that the upcoming sequel to Captain America might have found its leading lady. Marvel Studios is reportedly in talks to bring Emily VanCamp in. It is rumored that she will be playing Captain America’s long-time love interest, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter.
VanCamp is best known as the star of ABC’s Revenge, though she has also acted on Brothers & Sisters, Everwood, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Some rumors have claimed that VanCamp beat out Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, and other prominent actresses for the role.
Van Camp will be joining Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Toby Jones, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson. The sequel does not yet have a listed start date on production, but they will be shooting for the release date of April 4, 2014.
Interestingly, the character of Sharon Carter is a descendant of Peggy Carter, Captain America’s love interest in the first movie who was played by Hayley Altwell. Carter is also known as Agent 13, one of the most highly decorated agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I honestly haven’t seen any of VanCamp’s work, but I think we can place a good degree in Marvel Studios’ casting department. They haven’t really let us down yet.
What do you think of VanCamp joining the cast? Do you think that it will end up being Sharon Carter? Or will it be some other, original character? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
