The first Daredevil trailer just hit online and we finally get our first look at the new Marvel Netflix Universe. Honestly, it is exactly like a lot of fans were hoping, as it took the dark, gritty feel of the Marvel Knights world and transferred that to the new Marvel Netflix series.
Basically, the Marvel movie world, from Iron Man and Thor to Captain America and The Avengers, has been largely colorful and very much in the spirit of the comic books those movies were based on. However, television has become a different medium, thanks to shows like Game of Thrones, True Detective and The Walking Dead.
Somehow, along the way, television became where the more risky, critically acclaimed works have ended up, and that made it a perfect place for characters to end up that are a little more drawn in shades of grey than those in the movie world.
Daredevil, despite what the first movie would have you believe, is a character who lives very much on the dark side of the comic book world, doing anything he can to save his home of Hell’s Kitchen. Luke Cage is a former convict who actually sells his services as a hero over time. Iron Fist is a mystical kung fu master and Jessica Jones is a street level private detective. This is the world of the Marvel Knights, and if it works, then maybe someday we can see The Punisher and Ghost Rider appear on Netflix as well.
Anyway, the trailer shows that the series – at least at first – will ditch the red spandex for a more ninja look and we get a nice look at the streets of Hell’s Kitchen and Daredevil’s religious angst when it comes to his new life’s work. Check out the Daredevil trailer and let us know what you think.
Daredevil hits Netflix on April 10 with all 13 episodes available that day.
