For no real reason, Lakeshore Entertainment is planning on rebooting the Underworld franchise. Now, the question arises – why are they making an Underworld reboot just two years after the last movie in the series hit theaters?
Underworld started in 2003 with a tremendously fun movie that looked at an age old war between vampires and werewolves. It also gave Kate Beckinsale a chance to wear tight leather and become a huge action star. That was followed by an interesting sequel in 2006 with Underworld: Evolution, a prequel without Beckinsale in 2009 called Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and then the 2012 Underworld: Awakening.
Underworld: Awakening brought the humans into the war as they attempted to eradicate both vampires and werewolves. The movie also brought back Scott Speedman’s werewolf-vampire hybrid and ended with Beckinsale’s Selene still searching for him.
It looks like that story may never see a conclusion if the Underworld reboot occurs.
The news came from the Hollywood Reporter and there is no word on whether this will be a fresh reboot or just start the story up with a different focus on characters. Cory Goodman (Priest) has been hired to write the script while Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will produce the Underworld reboot.
