With news of a very unnecessary American remake of The Raid in the works, and a second chapter to the fantastic original Raid getting a new trailer this week as it builds its buzz, director Gareth Evans said he has an idea for a third Raid movie.

“They’re going to have to wait a while. I don’t want to do it for three years, maybe. I do have a concept in mind. If this one is two hours after ‘The Raid’ finished, ‘Raid 3′ starts three hours before ‘The Raid 2′ finishes. So you go back in time a little and then branch off for a different story.”

Wait, what?  Honestly, I have faith in Gareth Evans as that first movie was just a brilliant exercise in action filmmaking. With the strong word of mouth for the second Raid movie, the idea of Evans planning a story that plays alongside the first and third sounds interesting.

Three years seems like a long time to wait for the third movie, but if the Raid American remake is coming soon, then that could keep fans occupied and then they can return to Evans, the original, for the next chapter of his franchise.

The Raid 2: Berandal starts to hit in America on March 28. Until then, check out the new trailer.
