The world of Daredevil and Luke Cage are synonymous with New York City as Daredevil is all about protecting Hell’s Kitchen. Well, Netflix and Marvel knows how important it is and they will film the four Netflix TV series they acquired in New York City.
Of course the four series will be Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones and it will culminate in a mini series called The Defenders. This makes sense to group them together since Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are romantically linked in the comics (and have a baby together) and they met when working as bodyguards for Matt Murdoch after the world learned he was Daredevil. Iron Fist is Luke Cage’s best friend and long time partner.
The Defenders in the comics have nothing to do with these characters but it is an established group and provides name recognition.
There will be a total of 60 episodes and filming will start in New York City in summer 2014. Filming in New York will open up 400 full-time jobs created for the series. Disney has contributed a billion dollars to New York’s economy though film and TV production (something backwards thinking states like Oklahoma could learn from).
Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) will work on Daredevil and Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight) will work on Jessica Jones.
