It’s been no secret that the live action Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs films have been wildly successful so naturally it was only a matter of time before other cartoons got the same treatment.  Still, this news comes a bit out of left field for me.  It appears that Mandeville Pictures (owned by Disney) will be making a live action/CGI adaptation of Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.

Unlike the creations of Alvin and The Smurfs (though even as a kid I never really cared for them), I’m actually a little excited about this one.  As a kid of the 90s, I loved watching reruns of the show and to this day I still can’t that awesome theme song out of my head.

I’ve got to say though, while I’m not surprised that Disney has decided to get in on the live-action/CGI act, I certainly didn’t expect them to pick Chip and Dale for the big screen treatment.  I probably would’ve figured something like Winnie the Pooh, DuckTales, Gummi Bears or maybe even the Gargoyles (gritty is really in right now after all) to be a more likely choice.  Nevertheless, I kind of like the idea of a Chip and Dale movie and to me this one actually has a decent shot of being good (though I’ll be less than surprised if I end eating those words in a couple of years).
