Less than one year after Disney purchased the rights to the Star Wars franchise, another Disney acquisition will get into the Star Wars business. According to Latino Review, Disney plans to make a Pixar Star Wars movie.

This comes as a surprise. It was obvious that, under Disney, Star Wars would eventually make an animated film, but not under the Pixar banner. Pixar has always been a company who strives for original ideas, and even their sequels are based on their original creations.

However, it’s clear that the Pixar guys have a love for Star Wars. One look at the homage paid in Toy Story 2 should tell you that. Plus, look at Wall-E and you will see that Pixar knows how to create a futuristic sci-fi world in the mode of the original trilogy (ie. dirty and used). Because of that, I think a Pixar Star Wars movie will be a fantastic idea.

I know a lot of people are not very excited about the new Star Wars movies, but I am and I am excited to see Luke, Han and Leia back on the big screen (and hopefully Chewbacca as well). I also have 100% faith in Pixar, so a Pixar Star Wars movie is a win-win for me.

There is also talk of TV shows, comic books by Marvel, video games and spin-off movies (Boba Fett is bring written by Lawrence Kasdan). It may seem like overkill, but I am excited. What are your thoughts of a Pixar Star Wars movie? Chime in below.
