Yesterday, Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas announced on Twitter that they were starting a Kickstarter to raise funds for a Veronica Mars feature film. Their goal was to raise $2 million within a period of thirty days. Their fans came through. In spades.

Within four hours, the site had already raised $1 million, which Kristen Bell tweeted was a Kickstarter record. Seven hours later, they met the $2 million goal. They met their goal in a mere 11 hours. At the time of this posting, almost fifty thousand donors have given a grand total of $3,244,803. Keep in mind, this is only on the second day. Apparently this news has finally convinced Warner Bros. to green light the film, although they will only use the money raised from Kickstarter for the production.

Even though I’ve never seen a single episode of Veronica Mars, I’m very pleased by this news. While this won’t revolutionize the way that studios choose projects, it’s great to see that the fans of a beloved TV show can get what they want by proving how badly they want it. Now, if only Fox would let us do that with Firefly…..

Are you excited to see the return of Veronica Mars? What do you think that this Kickstarter trend will do for the industry? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
