Screen Rant is reporting that Legendary Pictures has recently won the rights to the latest novel from Marcus Sakey. The novel is entitled Brilliance, and it seems to be a bit of a departure from his usual subject matter of drama and crime thrillers. This novel actually incorporates elements of super-heroes.

This is the official summary from Amazon.

“In Wyoming, a little girl reads people’s darkest secrets by the way they fold their arms. In New York, a man sensing patterns in the stock market racks up $300 billion. In Chicago, a woman can go invisible by being where no one is looking. They’re called “brilliants,” and since 1980, one percent of people have been born this way. Nick Cooper is among them; a federal agent, Cooper has gifts rendering him exceptional at hunting terrorists. His latest target may be the most dangerous man alive, a brilliant drenched in blood and intent on provoking civil war. But to catch him, Cooper will have to violate everything he believes in—and betray his own kind.”

This sounds like it could be a very interesting story. It appears to be first and foremost a crime story, but I like how the powers are added to the plot. While I haven’t read any of Sakey’s novels, it seems that Hollywood likes them. This is the fourth of his novels to be optioned for a film release.

The novel Brilliance will not hit shelves until July, and there is no indication of when the film will debut or even begin production just yet. It does have two well-known producers, however, in Joe Roth and Palak Patel, who have recently teamed together for Snow White & The Huntsman, and Oz the Great and Powerful.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited to see/read Brilliance? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
