Without a doubt, Wreck-It Ralph was the best videogame movie of all time. Sure, it wasn’t based on a real videogame, but there plenty of recognizable characters in it from everything from Street Fighter to Q-Bert. The fact that it was robbed of an Oscar is a crime, but maybe they can get some retribution with a successful sequel. Director Rich Moore is talking like that is a possibility.

Not only that, but Moore said that his goal is a Toy Story 2 styled sequel – and I can only hope that he means by making a movie even better than the first. The original Toy Story was great, but Toy Story 2 was better and Toy Story 3 was a true masterpiece. Man, if Wreck-It Ralph can make those kinds of improvements in its sequels, we could see one of the best animated movies of all time. Or they could regurgitate the same jokes and just ride the line.

Or they could screw everything up.

I thought 2012 was a watershed moment for animated movies, with Wreck-It Ralph the king of a release schedule that included movies like ParaNorman, Frankenweenie, Pirates: Band of Misfits, Hotel Transylvania – and yes, Brave. Like it or not, Brave was a great variation on the classic Disney princess tale, except with a princess who kicked butt. However, at the end of the day, Ralph was king of the high-rise.

As for the sequel and comparisons to Toy Story 2, Moore was also talking about how Buzz Lightyear realized he was not the only Buzz Lightyear. There are hundreds of video games across the country, so are there hundreds of Ralph’s?

“Are there other Ralphs?,” Moore pondered. “What would happen if another ‘Fix-It-Felix, Jr.’ game were plugged in? Are there other Ralphs that are more contemporary? Is there another version of the game that was made for mobile?”
