Pop superstar and actor Justin Timberlake has expressed an interest in appearing in a Batman movie, but not as one of the Batman family. He’d prefer to be one of the more famous inmates of Arkham Asylum.
Timberlake recently did a radio interview with Fresh 102.7’s “Jim & Kim Show,” and during the course of the conversation, they asked if he would have any interest in portraying Robin in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film. Timberlake flatly refused with this statement.
“Not a chance in hell. I ain’t playing Robin. I have no aspiration to ever be a superhero in a movie.”
However, he went on to express the idea of playing of a villain was much more intriguing, and he cited the one he most wanted as none other than The Riddler.
“Now, a villain! I’ll tell you the villain I want to play more than anything because I grew up loving Batman, funnily enough, is The Riddler. The Riddler is my favorite villain. The Riddler was like a sociopath. He was proper crazy. So if I’m gonna play crazy, I’m wanna play proper crazy.”
Also during the interview, he was asked his thoughts about Affleck as Batman, and he only had praise for his Runner, Runner costar.
“I think he’s an extreme talent, so he could surprise a lot of people,”
If the role were available, and Timberlake were lucky enough to win the part, there’s certainly plenty of potential for new ground to be covered. Though the Riddler is one of Batman’s most famous adversaries, there have only been two notable people to portray in live-action films. The first was Frank Gorshin, reprising his role in the 1960’s Batman television show for the 1966 Batman: The Movie. In 1994, Jim Carrey assumed the green tights for Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. Both of those incarnations featured Riddler as a giggling goofball in place of the more serious threat that he can be. It seems that Timberlake favors the more sadistic and cerebral version of the Riddler, not unlike the one that Rocksteady used for their 2011 videogame, Batman: Arkham City. That’s something I’d like to see.
What do you think of the idea of Timberlake playing The Riddler? Would you like to see it happen? Why don’t you tell us what you think in the comments below?
