The questions abound concerning what movies will be part of the Marvel Phase 3 series. Of course, that is when Marvel starts to introduce new heroes to their universe, expanding beyond the “Big 3” Avengers heroes. That will include, so far, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange. However, others have been mentioned and now Comic-Con 2013 Marvel news makes it sound like more may be introduced in “Marvel One-Shots,” their short film series.
So far, all the Marvel One-Shots have surrounded the S.H.I.E.L.D. agency, the first two starring Agent Coulson, the third with two new agents in Item 47, and now a fourth this week starring Agent Peggy Carter, Cap’s love interest from the Captain America movie. Now that S.H.I.E.L.D. is coming to ABC Television, there is a chance that Marvel uses the One-Shots to introduce new superheroes.
Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito was talking about these Marvel One-Shots at Comic-Con 2013 and he should know quite a bit about the plans since he produced the last two. He said that the cost of adding a major character is too much, which is why Iron Man wouldn’t appear in one. He also said he wanted to do one with Loki, but Asgard would cost too much.
However, one character he really wanted to approach with a Marvel One-Shot was Ms. Marvel, which honestly could still tie in to S.H.I.E.L.D. since Carol Danvers is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the comics. He did say that, if they wanted to introduce Ms. Marvel to the Marvel Universe, and had an actress set to play her, a Marvel One-Shot would be a perfect way to introduce her. But, as he said, that requires a lot of pre-planning and that is not in the cards right now.
Black Panther was also mentioned, as was Dum Dum Dugan and a young Nick Fury. However, those will cost decent money too, but Marvel plans to make a One-Shot for every DVD release, so they have to focus on someone. Who would you want to see?
