According to an exclusive from Deadline, Warner Bros. will be producing a big screen, feature length film of the hit Cartoon Network series Adventure Time. Cartoon Network veteran and Robot Chicken producer Chris McKay is also producing the film alongside Roy Lee, his co-producer on The Lego Movie. Cartoon Network Studios is also involved in producing, along with series creator Pendelton Ward, who will also be part of the writing team.

For those who don’t know what Adventure Time is, its an animated series that follows the adventures of Finn the Human and his adoptive brother Jake the Dog as they protect the magical, post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Meanwhile, the 12-year-old Finn faces the usual struggles of growing up while balancing the demands of a hero.

The series, while aimed at younger audiences, has earned an older adult following due to its subtle humor, underlying darkness, and complex continuity – which will likely make for an interesting mix of demographics at the movie theater upon its release.
