Sci-fi movie fans know Alex Garland as the screenwriter behind movies like Sunshine, 28 Days Later, and Dredd. Well, he is finally stepping behind the camera for his first directorial effort with Ex Machina.

This is not an adaptation of the Ex Machina political superhero comic book series but is instead a movie about artificial intelligence and the age-old question of whether or not computers could eventually overtake and replace men.

Domhnall Gleeson stars in the movie and is really headed for a breakout after great turns in Frank and About Time. He will next appear in Star Wars: Episode VII, which should finally catapult him into the big time.  Ex Machina features Gleeson as Caleb, a computer tech who gets the chance to meet the elusive CEO of the company he works for.

When he arrives, he discovers that the CEO (Inside Llewyn Davis‘ Oscar Isaac) has created an AI in the form of a woman. He explains that he wants to see if the AI can develop human consciousness, but when Caleb is caught in between the AI (Alicia Vikander) and his boss, he realizes that one or both of them might be using him for their own goals.

This looks like the movie that I Robot wishes it could have been. Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
