Captain America: The Winter Soldier is widely considered to be the best comic book movie of the year (so far) and one of the better received elements of the film was Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow,.  Well, if an article from Screen Rant is to be believed then he will likely be making future appearances in the Marvel Universe.  If you haven’t seen The Winter Soldier yet, you may want to stop reading now because there are spoilers ahead.

For those of you that have been fortunate enough to catch the movie in theaters, you might remember Grillo’s character Rumlov playing a pretty significant role in HYDRA’s schemes.  You might also remember that he suffered some pretty severe burns at the end of the film (explosions have a way of doing that sometimes) but he was still alive.  It appears the reason for that is because the studio still has plans for the character.

Some of the more hardcore fans of Marvel probably aren’t too surprised by this since Rumlow AKA Crossbones is a pretty well known adversary to Captain America in the comics and even played a crucial role in the Death of Captain America storyline a few years ago as one of the assassins to the beloved hero.

Christopher Markus (co-writer for all three Captain America films) thinks a darker direction for the character is in store stating “I think somewhere down the line he will push past the R rating.  He doesn’t in this movie, mainly because it’s PG-13, what are we going to do past an R?  We can’t go past the PG-13.  Taste of things to come?  I don’t know if I’m leaking…”.

Earlier this week, Grillo himself said that he was “cautiously optimistic” and was quick to point out “So you know it’s obvious Rumlow is covered in rubble and burned to a crisp at the end but you see he’s still there,  They don’t do that for no reason,” which in fairness to Grillo is actually a good point.  It also helps that Grillo has a multi-picture deal with Marvel already.

Grillo’s continued presence in Marvel Universe would be welcomed and it would also be interesting to see if he can be developed a little better than he was in The Winter Soldier because entertaining as he was, the guy was still basically a glorified henchman for HYDRA.  It’s likely his next appearance would be in Captain America 3 but considering Marvel’s love for post credit scene, he could just as easily play a small part in Avenger: Age of Ultron.

Do you think Rumlow will play a bigger role in the Marvel Universe?  When will his next appearance be?  Do you want to see Crossbones? Give us your two cents in the comment section below.
