The news that a Gotham TV show was coming was pretty exciting, but with the new Gotham TV extended trailer that hit on Monday, it looks like this could end up being a really good comic book TV show. If this one is as good as it looks from the trailer, and even comes close to matching the quality of Arrow, DC Comics could have a hit on their hands.
Sure, Marvel is destroying DC Comics in the theatrical world, but DC Comics has always been better than Marvel on the small screen, both in animation and live action TV shows. Like it or not, Smallville had a lot of good moments and Arrow is fantastic TV. With Gotham, Constantine and Flash on the way, DC Comics is setting up a pretty nice slate of episodes.
The Gotham TV show will feature the city around the time that Bruce Wayne’s parents are killed. Ben Mckenzie (Southland) stars as Detective James Gordon when he is just getting his wheels under him in Gotham City. Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy) stars as Detective Harvey Bullock, as he takes on Gordon as his new partner.
The Gotham TV show will feature the origin stories for Catwoman, Penguin, The Riddler and Poison Ivy, as well as showing how Jim Gordon rose to power and will include a decent amount of Bruce Wayne as a young child.
Fox has officially ordered the Gotham TV show to series:
GOTHAM is an origin story of the great DC Comics super villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told. From executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (“The Mentalist,” “Rome”), GOTHAM follows one cop’s rise through a dangerously corrupt city teetering on the edge of evil and chronicles the birth of one of the most popular super heroes of our time.
