Conan O’Brien, of all people, scooped most major entertainment news sites today when he announced on Twitter that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is releasing the campy, fantastic, 1960s Batman TV series onto DVD for the first time.

Here is the tweet:

This is just so incredibly awesome and I want this DVD now. For those poor saps unaware of the Batman TV series, Adam West starred as Batman while Dick Ward starred as Robin. They fought criminals like Joker (Cesar Romero), The Riddler (Frank Gorshin), Penguin (Burgess Meredith), Catwoman (Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, and Eartha Kitt), Archer (Art Carney), Egghead (Vincent Price), Louie the Lilac (Milton Bearle) and so many more.

I can’t emphasize enough how great this show was. BAM! POW! KA-BLAM! Yeah, words can’t express how great this Batman TV show DVD will be – unless Adam West is willing to do a commentary track for the release. Most kids today know his voice from Family Guy, where he voices Mayor Adam West, or maybe cartoons like Futurama or SpongeBob SquarePants.

The guy has some stories to tell – which you might guess if you listened to the audio commentary on Batman: The Movie. Honestly, this needs to come out right now.
