Simon Pegg and Monty Python are teaming up and that should excite almost anyone who loves British humor. Monty Python is possibly the best British comedy troupe of all time and Simon Pegg is part of a modern day revival of brilliant cinematic humor alongside cohorts Edgar Wright and Nick Frost.
The Simon Pegg and Monty Python movie is Absolutely Anything and Pegg will star as Neil Clarke, a disillusioned school teacher granted magical powers by aliens. The aliens in the movie, all CGI creations, will be voiced by the Monty Python troupe of John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Terry Gilliam. Robin Williams has also signed on to voice a dog.
“Simon Pegg is the absolutely perfect Neil,” Terry Jones said.
Even more exciting is that Terry Jones is directing the movie, continuing the revival of the Monty Python troupe, who are also reuniting for a live stage show in the U.K. in 2014.
“As someone whose love of comedy was hugely informed by Monty Python, the chance to work with Terry was a gift,” Pegg said. “Meeting your heroes is one thing – working with them is something else.”
Simon Pegg has been stretching his acting muscles lately, appearing in mainstream blockbusters like the Mission: Impossible and Star Trek movie franchises. The idea of Simon Pegg and Monty Python teaming up for something is news that fans of Pegg’s comedy can get completely behind.
Pegg will next be seen in the quirky looking comedy A Fantastic Fear of Everything, which hits VOD in January 2014 and you can check out the trailer for that right here:
