Del Toro’s vampire vision is a far cry from the tawdry True Blood or twinkling Twilight, his vampires go one step beyond the vampires of legend, Guillermo’s vampires are down right grotesque, and gloriously gory, as they were meant to be in this girl’s humble opinion. The Guillermo Del Toro The Strain teaser is not a clip from the show, but a found footage style viral video to get a feel for a world about to have chaos unleashed upon it.

The show, coming to FX, will be based upon the trilogy co-written by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan, and the Dark Horse Comic adaptation, by David Lapham and Artist Mike Huddleston. The vampires of The Strain are parasitic, white blood oozing monsters with retractile proboscis beneath the host’s tongues, that simultaneously eat and defecate, there’s no romance to these beasties. We will see just how far FX is willing to push the envelope with this series, if it has any semblance to the book or comic, it will be grisly. With the popularity of the tv adaptation of Walking Dead, this shouldn’t be a problem, the masses have spoken, and enjoy a bit of a fright, usually only complaining when the films and shows based on the books they love veer too far from the original material.
The Strain is set in New York, and will star Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, along with Sean Astin, Del Toro veteran Doug Jones, and John Hurt, who will play Professor Abraham Setrakian in the pilot, though will be replaced by David Bradley there after.
The Strain teaser leaves me anxious to see what is to come, and hoping the show will have less of a found footage feel, and a more cinematic quality. I have a feeling that Del Toro will deliver.
