According IGN, Underworld 3 Director Patrick Tatopoulos has been hired to work as the production designer for Batman vs. Superman. Batman vs. Superman is currently in pre-production and set to be released July 17, 2015.
Tatapoulos has built up an impressive list of credits as a production designer and creature designer. His credits include 2012, Independence Day, Trick ‘r Treat, I Am Legend, the Underworld series and the upcoming 300: Rise of an Empire. It’s clear the he has plenty of experience, so even though I have no idea what the selection process for this guy was, I don’t fault Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder’s decision to hire him.
What I don’t really understand though is why they couldn’t just hire the guy that did the production design for Man of Steel. Admittedly, I had to look the guy’s name up on IMDB and his name is Alex McDowell. Even though I didn’t know the guys name until today, he did a pretty good job with Man of Steel and his credits are just as impressive as Tatapoulos.
Since Batman vs. Superman is meant to tie Man of Steel together with the eventual Justice League movie, I would think Snyder would want to keep as much of a sense of continuity with the franchise as possible. Then again this should probably be pretty low on my list of concerns with Batman vs. Superman.
