There aren’t many people on the planet who love movies more than Quentin Tarantino. It’s evident not just from his own pictures, where he frequently pays tribute to great films of the past, but really from any time he speaks on the subject of film. He’s also unfailingly honest in his opinions. According to Bryan Singer, Tarantino is one of the few people who loved Superman Returns.

For the past few years, Quentin Tarantino has been posting his Top 10 favorite films at the end of every year. He skipped the year of 2012, because he was understandably very busy making Django Unchained, and didn’t get to see as many movies as he would have liked. During 2010 and 2011, he selected some very different films for his lists. Though he chose critically-acclaimed films like The Social Network and Midnight in Paris, he’d also choose the films that gave him a great deal of fun, like Jackass 3D and The Three Musketeers. Though there are still three months left in the year of 2013, Tarantino has released a new Top 10 list for the year so far.

Quentin Tarantino’s list is enclosed here in alphabetical order.

  • Afternoon Delight
  • Before Midnight
  • Blue Jasmine
  • The Conjuring
  • Drinking Buddies
  • Frances Ha
  • Gravity
  • Kick-Ass 2
  • The Lone Ranger
  • This Is the End

It’s not surprising that Tarantino would include films like Gravity and The Conjuring on the list, but I don’t think anyone expected him to be praising The Lone Ranger. Since its debut, the film has had a relatively negative reception from both fans and critics. Renegade’s own Shawn gave the film only a 6/10 earlier this year. Having not seen the film, I can’t make any sort of judgment on the film or Tarantino’s appreciation for it.

What do you think about Quentin Tarantino’s list? Are you surprised that The Lone Ranger makes the cut? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
