After airing just one episode so far this season, Fox’s incredibly long-running animated show The Simpsons has been renewed by the network for a record-breaking 26th season.  Fox entertainment chairmen Kevin Reilly said “This ground-breaking series is not only the longest-running scripted show in television history, it’s one of the greatest sitcoms of our time, and I’m looking forward to yet another landmark season.”

This announcement has given me mixed feelings.  On one hand, The Simpsons is one of my all-time favorite shows and Homer Simpson continues to be quite possibly my favorite TV character.  However, as much as I love the show, I can’t ignore the significant decline in the show’s quality over the last few years which makes me question if keeping it going is the best thing for the show.  Part of me also wonders where that enthusiasm was from the network a couple of years ago when they forced the voice cast to either take a huge pay cut or they would consider cancelling the show altogether.

Regardless of how I feel, for better or for worse, despite the already 500+ episodes under it’s belt, The Simpsons doesn’t show any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Do you agree with Fox’s decision to renew for another season?  How long do you think The Simpsons will last?  Are you excited for tomorrow’s Treehouse of Horror special?  Tell us your opinion in the comment section below.
