A new Harrison Ford role actually has me excited for a change. Word has come that Harrison Ford is signing on to co-star in Anchorman 2, the sequel to the fantastic Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. There is little news about his character, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he played the same curmudgeonly news anchor type that he portrayed in Morning Glory.
What do I want to see from this new role? I want to see Harrison Ford as a cranky old man who treats Ron Burgundy like crap, almost a role reversal of what Burgundy did to Christina Applegate’s young female reporter in the first movie. I also want to see Harrison Ford take part in the alleyway battle that happened in the first movie, with Ford opening a can of whup-ass on Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and whoever else comes aboard this time around.
Adam McKay and Will Ferrell have wanted to make this sequel for years, but the studios never seemed as excited as the movie’s legion of fans have been. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is one of the best cult comedy movies to hit cinemas over the last decade, and this sequel is a long time coming. McKay always wanted to make it as a musical, and I have to wonder if he plans to throw in a musical number anyway.
The announced Harrison Ford role follows the signing of Kristen Wiig to join the cast, along with Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Christina Applegate and David Koechner.
