Thank goodness for copy and paste…not sure if anyone’s every noticed, but it’s a bit tedious to type out S.H.I.E.L.D., which is likely going to recur a few times in this news piece.
Entertainment Weekly has learned some tidbits about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Marvel Universe TV series that’s set to debut this fall on ABC. First and foremost, expect some hints on the unlikely but fully expected and fan-supported resurrection of Clarke Gregg’s Agent Coulson. But don’t expect this mystery to be resolved in the pilot; from what sources have divulged thus far, it looks like tidbits will be dropped like bread crumbs, and an answer may not even fully materialize during the first season. What we do know so far is that Agent Coulson’s colleagues stress that he can “never know the truth” about his demise.
The other biggie is that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will weave its way in and out of Marvel film timelines both past and present. The first thing this Renegade Reporter thought of was, “Does this hint work in tandem with explaining how Agent Coulson is back on the job?” This was only a momentary lapse of reason, though. With Joss Whedon on the job and this series being so high profile, I do not anticipate any type of bait-and-switch where our favorite geeky agent’s revival is revealed to happen before the events depicted in The Avengers. On a side note, when is the Hulk, Iron Man or Thor gonna show up???
Other questions that may be answered during the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel at Comic Con (Hall H, of course, next Friday June 19th) are whether or not J. August Richards plays Rage, and how the pilot and subsequent episodes will match up to the films in terms of production values. Producers have said that while every installment of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t look exactly like a blockbuster film, the show will impress. Fans attending the Hall H panel may find out firsthand, as it’s not out of the question that the pilot may be screened during the 1:45 – 3:00 p.m. timeframe. After all, while co-creator Maurissa Tancharoen seems enthusiastic to “finally answer some questions” regarding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., she does stress that a certain “vagueness” will have to be part of the proceedings so as not to completely spoil where the show is heading.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This fall, ABC. Cannot wait. Also cannot wait to see what the Hall H panel at Comic Con holds next Friday. Check back in at Renegade Cinema for reports next week!
