While promoting his new movie The Counselor at a press conference, director Ridley Scott confirmed that the Prometheus sequel is still in the works and currently being written.  While Fox did greenlight the sequel back  in August 2012, progress has been relatively slow after Prometheus screenwriter Damien Lindelof dropped out to work on Tomorrowland.  Though it was reported they were in the process of hiring Jack Peglen to replace Lindelof back in June, there had been little to no news about the sequel since then.

Personally, I could care less if a Prometheus sequel ever gets made. It was probably the most dissapointing movie for me last year and it most of it came off as a gigantic missed opportunity.  Though to be fair, most of that had to do with Lindelof’s script which provided over two hours worth of buildup and no pay off.  Also, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender both gave pretty good performances despite the problems with the script.  Maybe with Lindelof out of the picture, this new screenwriter can offer us something in the way of actual plot resolution or maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part.

Either way, the Prometheus sequel is still pretty early in it’s planning stages and Scott still has a pretty full schedule on his plate.  He’s currently in the casting stages on his biblical epic Exodus which is being targeted for a Winter 2014 release and still looking to get a long awaited Blade Runner sequel off the ground
