While making the rounds promoting his upcoming film Jack the Giant Slayer, Bryan Singer took the time to answer some questions about his next project, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Singer will be returning the director’s chair that he sat in for both of the two original X-Men movies.
Singer said that he wasn’t sure if fan favorites Storm and Nightcrawler would end up returning in the new film, and he also promised that we would see the use of technology that hasn’t been present in the series thus far, along with different conflicting drama. Singer claims that with all this in mind, it will end up being less of a sequel and a more individual kind of film.
One of the most intriguing things that Singer said was when he was asked if this new film would be a reset of the movies. Singer did say “I’ll be able to correct a few things,” but he didn’t elaborate on which things exactly.
Personally, I believe that it’s most likely that he’s referring to a few of the conflicting continuity issues throughout the series, such as the creation of Cerebro, and the chronology of Xavier’s life. Although it is important to make sure that all the dots connect for this one larger story, I’m not one-hundred percent certain that it’s a good idea. Using some larger time-traveling or reality-altering scheme like Crisis on Infinite Earths is difficult to handle even to a seasoned comic book fan, but to the average movie-goer, it may be doubly difficult.
X-Men: Days of Future Past begins shooting in April of this year with an expected release date of June 8th, 2014.
