Dredd 3D was an amazing action movie that provided fans of the comic with a film that made the Sylvester Stallone abortion a thing of the past. However, there is not a chance of a second movie because crowds avoided the theaters and it flopped at the box office. However, there will be a Dredd 3D sequel … in the comic books.
A preview image was sent out with the question of a Dredd 3D sequel answered with a September 2013 Judge Dredd Megazine announcement. Of course, that “megazine” is where fans read all of Judge Dredd’s stories, so maybe this means that they will start in September with a story following the movie’s plot structure.
While this is all pretty cool for comic readers, I really wanted to see more of Dredd on the big screen with Karl Urban returning as the Judge. I don’t see why they can’t make a version for under $10 million and think a Kickstarter program could finance most of it. The movie made money on DVD and Blu-ray, so a Dredd 3D sequel, if kept under budget, could be successful in the long run.
I guess this comic will have to suffice.
