A reboot of the 1989 cult classic Kickboxer is coming and the movie will be sold at this year’s Cannes market. Newcomer Alain Moussi will star in the Kickboxer reboot and will be supported by UFC star Georges St. Pierre and WWE star Dave Bautista. Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Zero, Tai Chi Hero) will direct the film. The Exchange announced the deal to sell the film today.

Moussi is no stranger to the world of action movies, working as a stunt man and martial artist in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Immortals, Pacific Rim and Whitehouse Down, however this will be his first leading role.
“Alain is a star and will be an amazing leading man,” said producer Ted Filed (Riddick). “Like Vin in Riddick, Alain will make this movie very special and this Kickboxer reboot will be the start of an amazing franchise”.
The original Kickboxer starred Jean-Claude Van Damme alongside former world kickboxing champion Dennie Alexio. In the film Van Damme starred as the cornerman for his brother, who is paralyzed in a fight with a ruthless Thailand fighter. Kurt then sets out to train and become a kickboxer in his own right to avenge his brother.

David and Kurt Sloan are the descendants of a well-known Venice, California dynasty of champions. Both are top-notch fighters and athletes in the prime of their lives. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong despite Kurt’s protests that the man is a crook. Not soon after, Kurt receives a letter from David and heads to Thailand to meet him. When he arrives, he discovers his brother is dead. The man responsible is the viscous Tong Po. Desperate to seek revenge, Kurt turns to Xian Chow, his brother’s former mentor. To defeat the man who killed his brother, Kurt must look within himself to find the strength and courage of a champion.
The weird thing is that picture of Alain Moussi kind of looks like Sasha Mitchell from those Kickboxer sequels.
