Ever since Joss Whedon got involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, countless fan boys (including myself) have been hoping this could mean that frequent Whedon collaborator Nathan Fillion would get involved with one of Marvel’s growing list of films. Those hopes have turned out to be pipe dreams however, due mostly to Fillion’s commitments on Castle. Fan boys may have finally gotten their wish as Fillion hinted that he may or may not be making an appearance in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
During a Firefly panel at Wizard World Comic Con, when Fillion was asked if he wanted a part in Guardians of the Galaxy, he responded by saying “Wanting to get a part… or maybe did. I’m just saying maybe. Maybe you’ll be surprised. Maybe. Check the credits.”
That alone doesn’t confirm anything concrete but director James Gunn has also made comments hinting at a possible cameo. According to Comic Book Movie, Gunn commented that the recently wrapped reshoots were used for “Anything we want, but didn’t get.. something to make the movie better… [a] cool cameo idea.”
This combination of comments certainly raises the possibility of Fillion’s involvement. It also helps that Fillion has worked with Gunn before in Slither and Super. I don’t know very much about the Guardians of the Galaxy comics so whatever part Fillion would allegedly have in the production, your guess is as good as mine. Either way, I’m very excited about this possibility and I will now gladly sit through the credits for this one just for a chance to see him on screen.
What kind of role (if any) do you think Nathan Fillion will have in Guardians of the Galaxy? Do you think it can lead to a bigger role down the road? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
