Kevin Feige finally started talking about the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. While he has been very quiet about the film coming out at all, he explained in the recent interview that it was the same situation as Vin Diesel, where there was a lot to talk about but they had to wait until the news was announced before they did so. In the new interview, he finally broke some news about the upcoming Doctor Strange movie and talked about what the magic in the movie would look like.
See, in the first Phase of the Marvel movies, we had a lot of stuff that seemed fantastical, but it was all explained as “science,” whether it was Iron Man’s armor, Captain America’s super soldier serum, or The Hulk’s gamma radiation. Even The Thor explained that they are not Gods and what some call magic, they refer to as science.
That sounds like it is what Doctor Strange will look like as well. Feige has talked about magic before, but here is his new descriptions about “magic” when it comes to the world of the Doctor Strange movie.
Are you watching the ‘Cosmos’ series? That’s magic. It’s unbelievable. If somebody knew how to tap into that stuff, what’s the difference between that and magic? You don’t get into it in ‘Harry Potter,’ but if a scientist went to Hogwarts, he’d find out how some of that stuff is happening! And particularly for a character like Strange, who goes from a man of science to a man of faith and who traverses both worlds.
When it comes to how the magic in this movie will look, Feige said it was a mixture of Steve Ditko Stanley Kubrick, Hayao Miyazaki and the Matrix movies. That just makes me really excited, especially since those are very big time comparisons. I assume it will have the magic of a Miyazaki movie, the mind blowing visuals of The Matrix and the storytelling vision of a Kubrick (movies) and Ditko (comics).
The Doctor Strange movie might have just surpassed Captain America 3 on my must-watch list for 2016.
