Straight up, if you just watched the Guardians of the Galaxy trailer and said “WTF?” then you probably don’t know much about James Gunn. You should know by now that this is not your dad’s Marvel superhero movie. Oh, and James Gunn is a freaking genius.
So, what do we have in the trailer? John C. Reilly’s Rhomann Dey explaining to a Nova Corps Officer played by Peter Serafinowicz each of their back stories. Drax is on a rampage after his family was murdered, Gamora is a murderer, Rocket has a lot of vehicular thefts, Groot is his muscle and Peter Quill is a guy who calls himself Starlord.
Then, there is the humor – mostly from Chris Pratt’s Starlord – but also from James Gunn, who set this trailer up to show the laughs are there, all the way down to using Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” at the end of the trailer. Honestly, if you love James Gunn, from the look of this trailer, you should love Guardians of the Galaxy.
