The Hollywood Reporter is announcing that Seth Graeme-Smith, the author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, has been doing some rewrite work for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.
According to THR, the new reboot will be a much more grounded approach to the superheroes and the sci-fi elements. Not only that, they will also delve deeper into the comics mythology, and maybe go beyond the villains that have already been used, Dr. Doom and Galactus, and instead use alien races like the Kree and the Skrull, or maybe even the beasts from the Negative Zone.
Josh Trank, the director of 2012’s Chronicle, will be directing the reboot, and it has just been announced that Matthew Vaughan will be producing. Acting as an overseer for Fox is comic book superstar Mark Millar, who has experience working with both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men franchise.
I’m actually pleased to hear this news. While I haven’t read either of Graeme-Smith’s books, I’ve heard a lot of good things about them, and I’m also please to hear this news about the direction of the film. I really disliked both of the earlier Fantastic Four movies, and I’m happy that it looks like Marvel’s First Family will finally be getting the respect they deserve. I’d actually hold off on using Dr. Doom right away, and I think it would be a very good idea to use some of the Negative Zone creatures as villains instead.
