One question many DC Comics fans are asking is when – and if – a Justice League movie is coming. Early rumors had Man of Steel director Zack Snyder a shoe in for the job of directing Justice League, and the original target date was 2015. In an interview with Collider, Zack Snyder said he was not looking at becoming the Justice League director at this time.
As a matter of fact, Snyder said that he feels that Man of Steel 2 should come out before a Justice League movie should ever be considered.
“Look … completely hypothetically, I feel like you need … to get Superman a little further down the road, I think, before you can do a Justice League movie.”
This makes plenty of sense. Marvel popped out two Iron Man movies to solidify him as a character before taking on The Avengers movie. They also released The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger before doing the team-up movie.
Sure, Warner Bros. has the Dark Knight films, a lackluster Green Lantern movie and now Man of Steel, but that still leaves Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and whoever else they might cast. Sure, Avengers brought in Black Widow and Hawkeye, but Hawkeye was the only real new character (outside a cameo in Thor) because Black Widow was introduced in Iron Man 2.
While Zack Snyder might mean that Superman will still have a story to tell after Man of Steel and before a team-up movie, he also might mean that more of the DC universe needs to unfold before they jump into the Justice League movie. If that is what he is saying, I agree completely, and still feel he could be the perfect Justice League director.
