Later this summer, Pixar will be offering a prequel to one of their most popular films, Monsters Inc. This makes the third Pixar franchise to be enlarged by a second film, after the Toy Story trilogy and the second Cars movie. Some fans wish that would tell more original stories and focus less on sequels, but there are others who would like to see more of the classic characters.
One of the Pixar films that fans most want to see a sequel to is The Incredibles. Brad Bird’s warm, loving send-up to the superhero genre is often considered among Pixar’s best films, and one of the best superhero films ever made, animated or otherwise. Bird himself has always been open to the idea of a sequel, but he wisely insisted on waiting until he had a decent story to tell.
Bird recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his secret project Tomorrowland and he also answered the question of ever seeing a sequel to The Incredibles. Here’s what he had to say.
I have been thinking about it. People think that I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world. I am stroking my chin and scratching my head. I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another [Incredibles] film, and if I can get ‘em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that.
Granted, this is no confirmation that we’ll get Incredibles 2, but it’s better than nothing. It’s a lot better than a mere “maybe.”
What do you think of what Bird has to say? Would you be excited to see Mr. Incredible and the rest of the family? Do you have any good ideas for an Incredibles sequel? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
