The success of Star Trek Into Darkness ticket sales for this second film in JJ Abrams franchise, doesn’t really come as any surprise. According to data from Fandango, 71% of their ticket sales on Tuesday morning were for the anticipated sequel alone. It’s actually doing double the business that the 2009 Star Trek film did during it’s cycle at the same point.
Show times all over the country are selling out and a majority of fans are looking forward to seeing it opening weekend. Die-hards are even planning to dress up in Trekkie cosplays and fandom memorabilia.
The film’s success isn’t just limited to the United States. The film experienced a $31.7 million take for it’s opening overseas.
