Deadline recently wrote an excellent piece on the money issues that Marvel is currently facing. One of the more impressive facts that they cited was that the Joss Whedon salary was approximately $100 million to direct Avengers 2, work as a creative consultant, and help produce the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. However, Joss himself has refuted that idea, in a way only he can.
This is what Joss wrote on the comments of his fan page, Whedonesque.
“Hi guys.
I was going to let it slide, but I’ve got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I’m not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I’m not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I’m not making Downey money. I’m making A LOT, which is exciting. I’m not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts.”
Well, there you have it. Straight from the Geek God himself. Not too much to argue with there. That Joss Whedon salary number was a bit ridiculous.
