The ever-growing stable of actors tapped for Matt Reeves’ Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel added two more this week. Enrique Murciano (CSI)  and Toby Kebbell (Wrath of the Titans) are confirmed for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Seems like a bi-monthly thing now where we learn about some new actors taking part in Dawn. I don’t know if this is an intentional effort on the part of Fox to keep interest up by trickling down information about the film’s ensemble cast — but they sweetened the pot this week by adding a (sparse) plot synopsis along with their official announcement that the film has begun principal photography:

“A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”

Looks as if Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will correspond with Battle for the Planet of the Apes from the original franchise in depicting the last stand between humanity and ape. Yes, I am very much single.

Rise was my favorite film of 2011, and I honestly can’t wait until Dawn hits theaters May 23, 2014.
