Paramount announced today that the Star Trek Into Darkness release date has moved up one day and the movie will now open on Thursday, May 16. Fans in Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Seattle, Austin, San Francisco, Houston, San Diego and Minneapolis get a special bonus with some sneak peak shows on Wednesday, May 15.

Originally supposed to hit theaters on Friday, May 17, the new Star Trek Into Darkness release date will present Paramount with a long weekend as it attempts to try to match the impressive opening of Iron Man 3, which brought in $175.3 million last weekend for the second biggest opening ever.

Tickets can be purchased at IMAX.com, Fandango.com and Movietickets.com and anyone who gets into the sneak screenings in the limited cities on Wednesday night will get a limited edition movie print.
