Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been one of the busiest men in entertainment for quite a while now. With the arrival of Fast & Furious 6 next week, he will have had a total of four blockbuster films since the start of this year. He also became the WWE champion for the first time in ten years, and headlined WrestleMania for the third year in a row. Later this year he will begin filming on Bret Ratner’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars, where he’ll be playing the titular role of Hercules.
But is that enough for The Rock? Not at all.
Deadline has reported that the next Dwayne Johnson role will be for a new series for HBO. The series has not been named yet, but it will be a half-hour “dramedy” series that will focus on the lives of active and retired athletes living in the city of Miami. Johnson will also serve as an executive producer for the show, alongside his Pain & Gain costar Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson.
This project does make a lot of sense. Miami is Johnson’s hometown and he’s been an athlete for longer than I’ve been alive. Wahlberg has been producing films and television series since Entourage, a show based on his own life, debuted in 2004. The format sounds very similar to Entourage and it sounds like it has the right mix of talent and experience to make it. I’m looking forward to hearing about what will happen next.
What do you think of the idea for this new Dwayne Johnson role? Would you like to see Dwayne on a series like this? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?

How I hate it when writers make “champion of wwe” something worthy of note. WWE is a joke…why being ‘champion’ of it boggles the mind.
Probably because 70,000 people went to see him defend his championship at Wrestlemania and 1.2 MILLION people bought the pay-per-view, so there are a LOT of people who don’t consider the WWE a joke.
As they say, you are what you eat… I guess the same goes for what you watch. ;)
