As we recently reported, Robert Redford has recently signed on to play a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The role he will play will end up being a high-level senior agent of SHIELD, the peacekeeping organization run by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.

This move did come as a surprise to many, especially since Redford’s appearances on the silver screen have been very infrequent, to say the least. Joining the Avengers franchise is a massive curveball.

While promoting his latest film, The Company You Keep, Redford sat down with the L.A. Times Indie Focus Screening Series, and the host did ask him about joining Captain America.

Redford briefly joked at the panel by saying, “There’s no money in those films!” Despite the joke, he did compliment superhero movies by saying he would have loved to see these kinds of movies as a kid.

“I’m doing thisĀ filmĀ because it’s different. It’s a new thing for me. I like the idea of stepping into new territory.”

Redford also paid a compliment to the cast and crew by saying:

“I also think it’s a good bunch of people who really know what they’re doing.”

Considering the legendary career that Redford has had, that could be taken as a really big compliment.

What do you think about Redford joining the film? Who do you think he’ll be playing? Why don’t you just tell us what you think in the comments below?
